It determines whether or not you do well in school, whether or not you make the girl’s basketball team if you try out, or whether or not you get the after-school job you apply for.
This picture you hold of yourself on the inside affects just about every part of your life.
WOW! That’s a scary thought, isn’t it? Why? Because what if your heart selfie isn’t a very good picture of you? Worse yet, what if it’s the wrong picture of you? That would mean you’d go through life thinking you’re someone you’re not.
So, how do you know if your heart selfie is a true picture of you? There’s only one place to find out, and that’s in the Bible.
You see, the Bible is like a mirror. When you look into it, you see yourself as God sees you, and God sees you as you truly are. So when you look into God’s mirror of you, you see yourself as you truly are.
Okay, Dr. MaryAnn. So, are you saying that when I look into God’s mirror, I won’t see that horrible zit on my nose?
That’s right. Because God sees you as free of zits. More than that, He sees you as a strong and confident young woman who can do all things through Jesus Christ.
But there’s the key: Jesus Christ. If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ, you won’t be able to see your heart selfie clearly. You’ll see only a jaded picture of what you really look like on the inside. You’ll see only what the world tells you you look like.
And the world will tell you you don’t measure up. You’re not pretty enough, smart enough, or skinny enough.
In other words, the world will lie to you.
But God will never lie to you. In fact, it’s impossible for Him to lie because it’s against His very nature. God will always tell you the truth, and knowing the truth will make you free. That’s what God tells us in John 8:32.
So, the next time you’re tempted to think you’re ugly, or fat, or a failure, or a zero, look into the mirror. Not your bedroom mirror, but God’s mirror. His is the only mirror that will tell you the truth about how very beautiful and special and precious you really are!
With love in the Lion of Judah (That’s another name for Jesus),
Dr. MaryAnn
